Part 4 Final Exam!

Over the past two years being an intern has had its ups and downs. Sometimes I'm certain that I want to be a teacher because I love being able to talk to the children and help them with their struggles. I know I want to do something with kids but I'm not sure if teaching is for me. What i've learned about myself is that i'm not very good at getting in front of a classroom and being confident enough to teach children, I often doubt my self and get nervous. But when I have one on one time with them I can easily talk to them with confidence. I often have thoughts of being a counselor because I feel like I would be better at that then teaching. Ready set teach has been an amazing experience and really made me realize that counseling is probably what I want to do instead of teaching.

My feelings as I departed from my class was definitely bitter sweet. I know I will miss them dearly but i'm glad we made it through the year. I have gotten so close to all my students this year and it was extremely tear jerking. I will remember them forever.

Part 1- Final Exam

Measurement. The student uses standard tools to estimate and measure time and temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit). The student is expected to:
(A) read a thermometer to gather data;
(B) read and write times shown on analog and digital clocks using five-minute increments; and

(C) describe activities that take approximately one second, one minute, and one hour.

  • Here is a game called Thermometer Quiz! This game is very helpful in learning how to read a thermometer. It tells you certain temperatures and requires you to find where the temperature is on the thermometer.
  • For time here is a game called Math Clocks and Time! For this game the student is quizzed on time. It asks them to find different times. This game will definitely help them master time telling.
  • After the students have played these games they will definitely find it easier to tell time and read temperature.

Thank a Teacher!

here is a short song to thank all of my teachers!

Dear Mrs. Collins,
Thank you teaching me how to become a better teacher. I have learned so much from you. You are such a blessing in my life. I have known you all of my life and I will miss you dearly when after I graduate and go off to college. Thank you Gain for everything you have done for me.

Parents!

  • Here is my response to Mrs. Stevens " What Teachers Want Parents to Know" blog!

  • I definitely consider teachers as professionals. Teachers are just as important as doctors and lawyers. If we didn't have teachers how would those doctors and lawyers know what          they do today? The answer is... they wouldn't. Its those teacher who taught them how to become a lawyer or doctor and encouraged them to never give up. It is okay for parents to question or second guess a teachers comment about their child when the teacher puts down their child or talks about them in a negative or harsh way. Students should take responsibility for their own actions when they know what they are doing is wrong or they disobeyed the teacher.
  • I don't think parents should allow their children to stay home if they have no reason to. If you child is tired, or grumpy, or had a bad night that shouldn't be a reason for them to stay home when they could be at school learning. Parents need to realize that every time they allow there child to skip school it puts the kid behind in there work.
  • Not taking responsibility for your own actions can affect your future tremendously. If you were too skip school without permission, missed your work for that day,  and never made up the work then you could end up failing a class. By you failing that class you just added another year in high school instead of graduating. It is VERY important for you to take responsibly for your own actions.
  • The time I failed and learned a valuable lesson was whenever I was supposed to go into work and never showed up. My manager was extremely mad and suspended me for a week which meant I made no money. That day I learned to always check my schedule and write down all of the days I work so I wont  have to suffer the consequences of not having money for a week.

Creativity Counts!

In response to Mrs. Stevens blog, Here are my thoughts on creativity:

What is Creativity?
Creativity is when someone is able to come up with something without looking it up online or cheating. Someone who is able to just have an idea just like that but in there own way of doing it. Weather it be through art, dancing, or sports.

Why does Creativity matter in Education?
Creativity matters in education because if you don't allow the students to learn in there own way and use there own creativity then they won't want to learn there just going to do enough to get by. But if students are able to do what they love and learn from it then its better and easier for both the students and the teachers.

How can we fix this?
One way we can fix this is by finding out each students favorite way of learning weather it be through art, computers, games, or even sports and allow each student to learn through each of there gifts. I think by doing this students grades will go up and they will enjoy learning and will want to go to school.

Appearance Counts!

In response to Mrs. Stevens blog, here are my thoughts on being professional:

Being professional is very important. Most teenagers think having tattoos all over your body is so cool. But in reality when that person with visible tattoos tries to get a job it will be extremely difficult for them. They will get turned down many times and most likely end up with a job at a fast food restaurant. Some fast food restaurants may even turn you down. When you are trying to get a job you should make sure you are dressed appropriately. NO hoochie skirts, cleavage showing, or 6 inch stiletto pumps. THAT IS NOT OKAY. First impressions are everything.

My Second Year as a Teacher!

This weeks blog is about my second year being a teacher, so in response to Mrs. Stevens blog I will tell you about my intern experience.

This year I have been interning at Foster Village Elementary.

I am in Mrs.Collins second grade class. In this class I teach every subject.

When I first walked into my class I was a little nervous but also excited. I was extremely happy to meet my class this year and to learn new teaching methods from my new mentor. I feel like I am more confident then I was on the first day of interning. I definitely feel that I have grown over the year and a half that I have been in this class. I am very eager to see what the rest of the year as an intern has for me. This class has encouraged me tremendously, I have more motivation to become a teacher than I ever have.

My Plans for the Future

This weeks blog is about my future! These are the three major things that I will do to better my future!
  1. I want to finish all of my work on time. The way I plan to do this is make time for homework. Instead of watching T.V. I will do my work. If I happen to finish my assignment in class I will work on another assignment instead of getting on twitter or listening to music. If I accomplish this and get all of my work turned in on time I will have better grades which will help me get accepted into a college.
  2. I want STOP procrastinating. This is almost impossible for me to do but if I have hope and have the want to do it I can. One way to help my procrastination is by staying off all social websites until I finish everything I need to do that day. Another way to help this problem is to tell your friends to encourage you or remind you to do an assignment. Stoping procrastination will help me majorly in life. I will definitely be more organized and ready for the college life.
  3. I want to finish my application for Tarellton University. This is the school that I would really love to get accepted in but I haven't even started. The way I will get this done is to first take my SAT and ACT. Then I can start my application and make sure it is perfect in all areas. The outcome of this goal is getting accepted to Tarrellton. well, hopefully!

20 Minutes!

As a teacher it is very difficult to encourage a student to read on his/her own time. What I would do is maybe show them different ways to have fun while reading. I found a very useful website that students could use at home and practice reading. One of the games I found is called Blast the Rocket. This games is very fun but also helps mainly kindergarten through first graders read different words. There are many fun reading activities but its up to you to explore the internet to find them.

As a parent you are usually busy and caught up in everyday stress. But one way you can make sure  your son/daughter reads the appropriate 20 minuets each day is to make it a routine every night to have story time and have your child read you a story. Not only is he/she getting the 20 minuet reading experience but he/she is also spending time with you by having story night each night. Make it more of a thing that your child looks forward too rather than them thinking its homework.

I personally don't like to read at all but I do try my best to read everyday day. When interning at elementary school it is very obvious which student does there 20 minuet reading each night. there is a major difference between the students who read versus the ones who don't. There are also those in between students who read but maybe not every night. If every student were to do their twenty minute  reading each day it would be very helpful for teachers.

Solutions!

The Sandy Hook incident was not what anyone was intending, but as a teacher you should always think of the worst and try to make a plan to protect you students from mayhem. Something I think our country should do to protect our students is make every student wear their I.D. everyday no matter what. They should also put video cameras EVERY WHERE! And there should be people to monitor all of the doors. Most of the students wouldn't know what to do incase of a lock down because we never have drills, so maybe they should have drills and inform the students what to do incase of a tragedy. I think if we do these thing our school would be safer for the students.
